How Acoustic Lure Tracking got started

It all began one summer day in 2005

I went fishing, by myself, on the Chesapeake Bay for Striped Bass...as I had done many times before. I set 4 lines with lures and "Umbrella Rigs" and began trolling up and down the bay. One of the things about fishing by yourself is that you have way too much time on your hands to think about things. Before too long I began to think (as I had many times before) that it is ridiculous that I spend so much money for my boat to get me out on the bay, for my rods and lures to have what it takes to get the fish to bite and reel them in, for my GPS so I could pinpoint the spot where I wanted to fish and for my fish finder so I could know exactly how deep it is to the bottom and to mark the depth where the fish are swimming. But, I had no Idea exactly how deep I was trolling my lures. In fact, the depth of my lures was little more than an educated guess.

Frustration spawns determination

On that day I decided that there must be a way to know the depth of a lure when trolling for fish and at that moment I became determined to find it. After 2 years of trial and error with various electronic components I finally got it right. Working closely with my Electronics Engineer through several prototypes and revisions...we finally got all of the bugs worked out in the fall of 2007. Unfortunately, by the time the first Acoustic Lure Tracking system was ready it was basically the end of fishing season.

Marketing began in 2008

In the fall of 2007 (just before the Great Lakes season ended) I traveled to Milwaukee to show my invention to Jim Hirt of Blue Max Charters (http://www.bluemaxcharters.com/). He was very impressed with the ALT and wrote a nice article about it. You can read the article here ( http://www.greatmich.com/htdocs/dcforum/DCForumID19/34.html

I didn't really start marketing the ALT system until late in January of 2008. I didn't have much budget for marketing...so I opened a store on eBay. I did have a few sales on eBay...but I wanted to have my own Website; so I started working on acousticluretracking.com. By April, 2008 this Website was up and running and is now the primary point of Acoustic Lure Tracking sales.
